Current Research
My research is based at the crossroads of activism, art, and transnationality. Specifically, I investigate works of 20th century U.S. Latina/o cultural production that take up the Central American revolutions of the 1970s and 1980s in an attempt to understand the role of warfare in Latina/o transnationality and the relationship between narrative, history, and activism. I am interested in exploring not only how and why artists choose to discuss history and activism in their work, but also how these narratives reflect ideas of pan-Latinidad.
Teaching Philosophy
I strive to create a classroom that is democratic in process, open and accepting in atmosphere, and intellectually and creatively stimulating.
